Frank G. Hough
1890 - 1965
Frank was largely responsible for the development of the first fully integrated rubber-tired wheel loader, called the model HS Payloader. Introduced in 1939, this innovation provided speed, maneuverability and fast cycle times. He formed a new company under his own name in 1933. Under his leadership and legacy, the company produced a long line of achievements which have largely defined the modern wheel loader. These include such wheel loader innovations as four wheel drive, torque conversion and the hydrostatic transmission, which were essentially unchallenged for 15 years after the introduction of the HS. In 1952, he sold his company to International Harvester, which became a predecessor to the Komatsu-Dresser Company.
