| Scott's essay
The career I plan to pursue plays a big part in the construction industry.
I would like to become a heavy equipment technician.
Without heavy equipment that works properly, the construction of houses,
roads, and other buildings would be nearly impossible. I applied and was
accepted to the Pennsylvania College of Technology for their heavy equipment
program. I am currently working for Giles & Ransome, the local Caterpillar
dealership, as a shop helper, and plan to return there after school as a
service technician. G & R will be sponsoring me in the Caterpillar
excellence program at Penn College.
I attended Lehigh Career and Technical Institute for two complete years
where I achieved excellent grades. I also made student of the month both
years I attended. I competed in the VICA competitions for LCTI where I
received a 1st place in the regional competition and 6th at the state
competition.
I got my start in the construction industry from my father. My father
works as an equipment operator and a worksite foreman for Scheurmann
Excavating. During the summer of 1999, I observed my dad while he was
working. This experience was a turning point in my life. From the summer
of 1999 on, I decided I would become a heavy equipment technician.
I am currently striving to meet my goals, and I am almost halfway there.
I am currently a shop helper at Giles and Ransome, as mentioned above. Next
on my career path, is Pennsylvania College of Technology. After I graduate
with a Two-year degree in heavy equipment technology, I will continue to
work at G & R to pay off my student loans, however, I plan to go back to
night school to become a mechanical engineer.
Mechanical engineering is the frontier in pioneering heavy equipment
technology. To be able to design and build heavy equipment is my dream, and
I plan to achieve my dreams and goals and be the best possible self I can
be.
Scott has been accepted to Pennsylvania College of Technology. He will attend their Heavy Construction Equipment Technology Program starting this fall. Good Luck Scott!
